The Ancient Briton pub, a warm Welsh Welcome awaits inside
The Ancient Briton pub is a well established and much loved local pub, ideally situated on the beautifully scenic A4067 road to Brecon.
We’re proud to welcome Hikers, Bikers, Walkers and Cavers (amongst many others) to our traditional inn, in the Brecon Beacons national park. You can find us just a few short miles from the Famous Dan-yr-Ogof show caves and the equally well known Craig-y-Nos Castle – former home of Victorian opera singer Adelina Patti.
We have ample, safe car parking off the main road and extensive grounds encompassing beer gardens and camping meadows. We’re extending our camping facilities even as we write, so keep coming back – or email us for more details as we hope to add permanent pitches, static caravans and log cabins to our accommodation range in future. We also have a small sheltered outside area for those guests who smoke, and it’s heated in winter to retain a little comfort.
Some of the finest walking in northern Europe is right on our doorstep and we’re a popular watering hole for footsore travellers as well as a great base from which to explore the region on foot.
We also have some of the finest caves in Britain, with a very active local caving club to assist the less experienced and expert alike. For those with less adventure in mind, the excellent National Showcaves of Wales are a 5 minute drive away and highly accessible.
Every summer we play host to a number of food, drink and music events, from the Medieval to the modern.
Our resident chef takes pride in serving fresh, home cooked food from our kitchens, with REAL CHIPS, not your usual frozen rubbish. Our Restaurant is a well established eatery for the local and wider population, with many regular customers returning frequently to enjoy our locally sourced food. As we only cook fresh, home prepared food, we serve between Noon and 3pm for lunches and 6-9pm for evening meals. We have been awarded the maximum score of 5 from the local authority for food hygiene.
Accommodation – Bed and Breakfast
We also have a number of recently refurbished en-suite rooms at your disposal for bed and breakfast. And boy what a breakfast! We’ll make sure that after a great night’s kip on a comfy bed, you’ll start the day ready to face the world with a choice of traditional welsh breakfast ingredients.
In the cold winter, our traditional log fire is always a popular focal point for cold hands and feet to be warmed at. We think it also adds to the cosy welcoming atmosphere you’ll find here.
As well as our fantastic food, we’re known far and wide as a hot spot for real ale enthusiasts. We’re frequently visited by our friends in CAMRA, seeking the latest in our ever changing selection of beers from regional, national, and specialist micro brewers. We regularly organise visits to local breweries as well, as many of our visitors are interested in the pedigree of their favourite locally brewed ales. We’re proud to have been a CAMRA local pub of the year for the last four years as well as Winner of South and Mid Wales Regional Pub of the Year 2011. The Ancient Briton is also features in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide.
There’s always a selection of at least 9 guest real ales and 3 ciders on our hand pulls and we change them on a weekly basis – or as soon as they run out! We also naturally have a full range of other beers, ciders, spirits and a selection of wines to complement our bar and restaurant menu’s.
